Berths for Sale IN Cannes

Port guide - Cannes

These days Cannes is synonymous with its International Film Festival, twinkling with a constellation of silver-screen stars, and a meteor shower of camera flashes. Though the festival lasts less than two weeks, the city basks in its aura for the rest of the year. Long before it started screening flicks, Cannes’ offshore islands, the Îles de Lérins, were inhabited by the Ligurians, then the Romans; and the town was first mentioned by name in the 11th century. Like elsewhere along the coast, its star ascended in the 19th century when newly arrived British luminaries triggered an influx of London’s high society. Palatial hotels line the palm-shaded Boulevard de la Croisette, and the city’s chic boutiques cater to affluent travellers and delegates who come to the town for festivals and congresses throughout the year. In 2011, this famously included the G20 summit.

Cannes has two ports – the Vieux Port is home to the annual Boat Show in September, and numerous regattas and events. To the east lies the larger Port Pierre Canto, with berths for everything from fishing boats to superyachts. Both ports have superb access to the sea itself, and are only 15 minutes from the peaceful anchorage of the Îles de Lérins.
